The winners of the 9th edition of the Malta Waste Reduction Awards were announced on 3rd June, during an event rewarding the best actions carried out during the European Week for Waste Reduction. 

With the theme of Circular Communities, this initiative has encouraged communities to come together with their action to promote sustainable waste management. The winners were selected by an expert jury where each winning project received funding to assist in waste reduction efforts. Winners also received trophies for the occasion. 

In her message, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli said that in order for the country to continue moving towards a circular economy, there is the need to work and collaborate together. Minister Dalli said that such actions inspire everyone to be part of this positive shift towards more sustainable consumption and production patterns. She thanked all those who participated in this event with their interesting ideas and actions as they helped raise awareness about waste reduction. 

In his opening remarks during the ceremony, WasteServ CEO Richard Bilocca thanked all the participants for their actions as this has encouraged the public to step up their waste prevention and separation efforts. 

During this ceremony, recognition was also given to Local Councils for their efforts in favour of waste management within their locality awarding the best three localities from Malta and Gozo. 

The Malta Waste Reduction Awards aim to encourage public administrations, companies, non-governmental organizations and citizens to work in favour of the environment. Through actions and projects aimed at reducing, reusing and recycling waste, participants had the chance to showcase their initiatives. During this event, a total of €17,000 are given in prizes. 

The winners of the Malta Waste Reduction Awards stand a chance to represent Malta at the European Week for Waste Reduction Awards which brings together the best participants in the field, from all over Europe.
