With an investment of more than €20 million, of which €16.9 million are eligible for European funding through the Cohesion Fund, the Multi-Materials Recovery Facility (MMRF) is expected to start operations in 2023. This new facility will improve WasteServ’s waste management capacity.
The processes performed at this facility are directed towards deviating recoverable materials away from landfill, in line with waste management targets emanating from the Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC.
Located in the Ħal Far area, this plant will be accepting electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) as well as tyres, wood, mattresses, flat glass, expanded polystyrene, textiles and gypsum products. The collected materials will be segregated, packaged, and dispatched for export. Each material will be treated and processed separately with the aim of increasing the value of the material for export while maximising the use of space and efficiency.
